Sally Jackson

Introduction

Sally Jackson is one of the most beloved mortal characters in the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles. She is the mother of the protagonist, Percy Jackson, and is described by him as "the best person in the world." Despite a tragic childhood and a difficult life, Sally remains optimistic, kind, and fiercely protective of her son. She works as an author and has a penchant for making blue food—a rebellious tradition she started to defy her abusive ex-husband, Gabe Ugliano.

Personality

Sally is defined by her unconditional love and selflessness. She endured years of abuse from Gabe Ugliano solely to protect Percy, as Gabe's scent masked Percy's demigod aura. She is patient, understanding, and possesses a quiet strength that even gods admire. Poseidon once noted that she reminded him of a queen. She is also one of the few mortals with the gift of Clear Sight, allowing her to see through the Mist and perceive monsters and magic for what they are.

Childhood

Sally was orphaned at the age of five when her parents died in a plane crash. She was raised by her strict uncle, who had little interest in her. She dreamed of becoming a novelist but was forced to drop out of high school to care for her uncle when he became ill with cancer.

Meeting Poseidon

After her uncle's death, Sally was left with nothing. She met Poseidon at Montauk Beach, and the two fell in love.

Poseidon offered to build her a palace under the sea, but she refused, wanting to live her own life. She gave birth to Percy and raised him as a single mother, always trying to protect him from the dangers of his heritage.

The Lightning Thief

In the first book, Sally is apparently killed by the Minotaur while trying to get Percy and Grover to Camp Half-Blood. It is later revealed that she was kidnapped by Hades and held hostage in the Underworld. Percy quests to save her, and she is eventually returned to the mortal world. At the end of the book, she uses Medusa's severed head to turn Gabe into stone, selling the statue to fund her education and a new apartment.

Ongoing Support

Throughout the series, Sally serves as a grounding force for Percy. She provides him with emotional support, advice, and a safe haven. She eventually dates and marries Paul Blofis, a high school English teacher who accepts Percy and the demigod world. In The Trials of Apollo, she gives birth to a daughter, Estelle Blofis.

Percy Jackson

Sally and Percy share an incredibly close bond. Percy is her pride and joy, and she supports him in every way possible. Percy often worries about her safety and strives to make her proud.

Poseidon

Sally and Poseidon share a mutual respect and lingering affection. Unlike many gods who discard their mortal lovers, Poseidon cares for Sally and checks in on her.

Paul Blofis

Paul is Sally's second husband. He treats her with the love and respect she deserves. He is also a supportive stepfather to Percy.

Estelle Blofis

Estelle is Sally's daughter with Paul and Percy's younger half-sister.
