About The Mist
The Mist is a free daily Percy Jackson deduction puzzle. In the books, the Mist is the magic that hides the mythological world from mortal eyes: a Fury passes for a math teacher, and the Chimera passes for a Chihuahua. Each day you get twenty people at a scene straight out of the series, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Gateway Arch, and some of them are monsters in disguise. Every person you clear leaves a true clue, and the clues are always enough to find every monster without guessing. Everyone plays the same puzzle, in 13 languages.
How to play
- 1Start from the one person who is already revealed and read their clue.
- 2Pick someone still in the Mist and call it: mortal or monster. Only make the call when the clues leave no other possibility.
- 3Get it right and the Mist lifts. Mortals and monsters both leave a new clue, and every clue is true.
- 4Keep going until every monster is found. Your score is mostly accuracy (mistakes, guesses and hints), with up to a quarter for speed compared with everyone else who finished today.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to have read the books?
- No. Every clue you need is in the game. Readers will recognize the scenes and a few famous disguises, but who is a monster changes every day, so knowing the books never gives the answer away.
- How is the score calculated?
- Scores go up to 100. Accuracy comes first: a wrong call costs the most, and a hint or a correct call you couldn't have worked out yet costs half as much. Speed is worth up to a quarter: your time is compared with everyone signed in who finished today. Score = accuracy × (0.75 + 0.25 × speed).
- What do the difficulty levels mean?
- Easy puzzles use simple counting clues and can mostly be solved one clue at a time. Medium adds clues about directions and pairs of people. Hard adds comparisons and "at least" clues, and several steps need two or more clues combined.
- When does a new puzzle come out?
- Every day at midnight UTC, with a new scene.
- Does The Mist count toward the Plaza weekly leaderboard?
- Yes. For signed-in players, each day's result counts toward the Plaza weekly board and the weekly medals, alongside Cabin‑dle, Daily Trivia, The Oracle and Pieces of Olympus.
